Prisoners On Hunger [Strike] Face Death In Palestinian Prisons

The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) is deeply concerned about the lives of detainees on hunger strike currently being held at the General Intelligence Detention & Interrogation Center in the city of Bethlehem and the possibility of deteriorating their health condition because of the strike, which began on Wednesday, 20/06/2012. On Monday, 25/6 / 2012, ICHR paid a visit to the detainees in the wake of their announcement to enter into an open hunger strike in protest against their arbitrary detention, although court decisions have been issued by the Palestinian competent courts to release them.
ICHR eagerly followed the issue of non-implementation of court decisions issued by the Executive that the non-implementation of court decisions is a crime punishable by law in accordance with Article (106) of the Palestinian Basic Law, which states that: “Judicial rulings shall be implemented.
Refraining from or obstructing the implementation of a judicial ruling in any manner whatsoever shall be considered a crime carrying a penalty of imprisonment or dismissal from position if the accused individual is a public official or assigned to public service.
The aggrieved party may file a case directly to the competent court and the National Authority shall guarantee a fair remedy for him.” It also considers arbitrary detention a violation of international conventions for the protection of human rights.

Accordingly, ICHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to assume its responsibilities and the immediate release of all detainees in implementation of the court decisions and in line with the provisions of law and international conventions.
On the other hand dozens of Palestinians from Hebron demonstrated on Wednesday June 27 2012 against the PNA and in solidarity with the detainees at the Palestinian intelligence prison in Bethlehem, where four political detainees have been on hunger strike for nearly 10 days. They are Mohamed Al-Atrash, Mohammed Abu Hadid, Othman Al Qawasmeh and Moatassem Al-Natshe

The Palestinian authority “security forces” has prevented the media from filming the protest under the pretext that the event takes place in front of a “security” building.

Arrest Warrant Against Shaul Mofaz

Palestinian youth presented a memorandum for “arrest warrant” on Thursday June 28 2013 to the Palestinian Attorney General, demanding the arrest of israeli Deputy Prime Minister and war criminal Shaul Mofaz, (שאול מופז) at the moment when he enters Ramallah in the occupied west Bank to meet the Palestinian “President” Mahmoud Abbas on the next Sunday.
The request is an initiative of a Palestinian youth group calling them selves “Abna’a El Balad”, in English “Youth of the Country”. The representatives of the group delivered the arrest warrant to the Deputy Attorney General demanding that he arrest Mofaz.
The coordinator of the youth group, Ali Ibiadat said: “We came to the headquarters of the Attorney General to demand that war criminal Mofaz is arrested instead of being met by “President” Abbas.
He added, “Mofaz is responsible for crimes against our people in Gaza and the West Bank. He is responsible for crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide. He led the siege imposed on President Yasser Arafat and caused his death and therefore he should be tried instead of being welcomed in our homeland”.

Outside of the court, a group of youth were stood in front of the Attorney General office which is only a few meters from the headquarters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO headquarters. They were raising signs condemning Mofaz’ visit to Ramallah.
In the signs they wrote: “Welcoming killers is a shame on our Leadership”, “The Leadership must wake up”, “Yes to a trial of Mofaz instead of meeting him” “Shame on our leadership receiving killers”, “Trial him instead of receiving and welcoming him”.

15 Years Jail For Exporting Gas to Israel At Low Prices

On Thursday, June 26 2012 an Egyptian Criminal Court sentenced in Cairo to 15 years imprisonment each, former Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi and fugitive businessman Hussein Salem. According to  judicial sources, the sentences were handed down in the case of the exports of Egyptian natural gas to Israel at prices far below market.
Both former minister Fahmy and the fugitive Salem were figures of the former Mubarak regime. Both were very close to the former dictator and their sentences were due to corruption and harming the countries interests in the case of gas exports to israel at prices far below world market price levels. Mubarak himself was sentenced to life in prison for failing to prevent the killings of protesters during the uprising last year.
Hussein Salem is a fugitive from justice and currently lives in Spain as he has a Spanish passport. He was tried in absentia.

American Fundamentalist and Drugs Trafficker is Deputy Health Minister

Yaakov Litzman (יעקב ליצמן) is a radical ultra-orthodox extremist and racist zionist from the USA, immigrated with his family from Poland and grow up in Brooklyn. In 1966, at age 17, he immigrated to occupied Palestine and is now the so-called “deputy health minister of israel”. Litzman has expressed his strong opposition to Israeli insurance companies giving health insurance to Palestinians in Israel. These so-called “Arab-Israelis” live in their own homeland, stolen and occupied by criminal foreigners like Litzman and renamed “Israel”.

According to dpa, the German news agency, israeli radio quoted Litzman on Thursday morning saying that “the Palestinians who receive treatment in Israeli hospitals will come and replace Israeli citizens”.

According to my knowledge Litzman is involved in trafficking drugs. He hides behind the long beard typical of jewish religious extremists , intended to confer him respectability in israeli society, and a ministerial post. On Tuesday, June 05, 2012, the Israeli police found marijuana in his car (a government car) after his driver hit a stone wall in Jerusalem while driving the vehicle.

Summer of 2012: Film Festival, Opera, Concerts, Dancing and Food

The summer in Vienna has a special feeling, smell, colour and joy: film festivals, Concerts, Opera, Dancing and Food. Yearly, the city of Vienna makes everything possible to have a special summer in the square before the City Hall, a special summer for all Austrians and the increasing number of guests from outside who will watch classic as well as modern musical highlights.

The city of Vienna stated that the film festival 2012 on Rathausplatz will start on 30 June and last until 2 September 2012.Read more about this year’s film festival in the programme released by the city hall.

The film festival on Rathausplatz takes place for the 22nd time this summer and shows selected classical music concerts and, for the first time, also some top pop music acts on the large screen. The food stalls are open daily from late morning and provide the visitors with an international selection of delicious foods and drinks. The popular jazz brunch on Sundays also forms part of the film festival again this summer.

Highlights of the programme: 47 productions will be shown on 65 evenings. Admission is free. Music lovers can enjoy a classical as well as a modern concert each week. The programme includes productions from the Vienna State Opera and the Zurich Opera House such as “Carmen” and “La Bohème”, as well as this year’s New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philharmonic.

Dance and operetta enthusiasts should look forward to “Coppélia”, “The Nutcracker”, and “Alice in Wonderland”. Fans of modern music will be excited about this year’s pop music highlights on Rathausplatz including “Adele – Live at the Royal Albert Hall” and “Anastacia plays Avo Session”.

Technological innovations: After switching to HD and putting up stands for an audience of more than 1,000 in 2007, the film festival on Rathausplatz boasts further technological innovations this year: the screen has been enlarged to 300 square metres, and two additional loudspeaker towers are put up for a perfect sound experience.

Cooperation with Viennale: The film festival on Rathausplatz has invited Viennale to a guest performance on occasion of its 50th anniversary and will show three classic concert films, among them Martin Scorsese’s “Shine a Light”.

OFID Awards Palestinian Ex-Detainees. Where Is the Money?

At a time while the Palestinian Authority continues its rampage of arbitrary arrest of Palestinian civilians throughout the occupied West Bank, jailing and detaining hundreds of academics, university students, lecturers and professors as well asdozens of Palestinians released from the israeli occupation gulag, incarcerating them in hellholes like the prisons of Jericho, Hebron and Beitunia … under the shameful project labeled “smile and hope campaign”.
While the PNA continues to smear the reputation of these Palestinian detainees, actually the intellectual and middle class, as “lawbreakers”, “criminals”, “wanted for crimes” etc., the “Minister” of Prisoners Affairs at the PNA, Issa Qaraqa, received on last May 14 2012 an award of US$ 100.000,- purposed towards the rehabilitation of the ex-detainees of the Israeli occupation. The Award was announced and handed by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) to “Minister” Qaraqa during a ceremony held in the Austrian town of Seefeld in Tirol.
The “Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs” of the PNA and its Ex-Detainees Rehabilitation Program (EDRP) won the OFID award of 2012.
OFID’s highest policy-making body, the Ministerial Council, held its 33rd Annual Session yesterday in Seefeld, Austria, to review performance and set policy for the Vienna, Austria-based institution for the coming year.
The questions are:
  • How will Minister Qaraqa and his ministry rehabilitate the Ex-Detainees and prisoners while the ONLY “rehabilitation” which has been seen from the PNA is rearresting dozens the ex-detainees (Palestinian political prisoners abducted by Israel) only to hold them in dungeons under inhuman conditions. Are the PNA prisons a new money-making project, cashing in awards such as the  Ex-Detainees Rehabilitation Program (EDRP) award?
  • Has “Minister” Qaraqa ever visited the PNA prisons and talked to the prisoners?
  • How will “Minister” Qaraqa distribute the award? Will go to the PNA jails and divide the award money between the academics, university students, lecturers, professors, doctors, engineers etc. … held without charges and for no crimes at all at the Ramallah, Beitunia, Jericho, Hebron, and Nablus prisons?
  • What “rehabilitation” project will “Minister” Qaraqa realize with the EDRP award while he keeps silence on his own role in the arbitrary re-arresting of the ex-detainees, and keeping silent about the fact that he himself is encouraging these re-arrests?
Are the PNA jails where prisoners are tortured using illegal and immoral methods of torture now “rehabilitation projects” which is why they were awarded the “EDRP” by OFID? If not, it is only legitimate to ask where the money of the award is going, since “Minister” Qaraqa has remained silent about this, and also no announcements whatsoever about this award have been made in Palestina.
Further details about the award which minister Qaraqa received for the so-called project of rehabilitation (EDRP) is published below. It should be noted the PNA newspapers published in Palestine have not reported even one small paragraph about the respected and generous award of the OFID, for “unknown” reasons.
Rehabilitation Program for former Palestinian detainees wins 2012 OFID Award for Development

Dr. Suleiman Al-Herbish
The Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Mr. Suleiman J. Al-Herbish, today officially announced that the OFID Annual Award for Development, 2012, will go to the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and its Ex-Detainees Rehabilitation Program (EDRP). The Award will be presented at the forthcoming 33rd Annual Session of the Ministerial Council of OFID to be held in Austria, June 14. The Palestinian Minister of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, HE Mr. Issa Ahmed Abelhamid Qaraqe, will receive the Award.
The EDRP of the Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs focuses on the economic and social rehabilitation of former detainees and their reintegration into Palestinian society. Mr. Al-Herbish said the award was in recognition of the role the EDRP plays in caring for Ex-Detainees and their families. He asserted that a large component of the core efforts of EDRP is targeted toward the families of prisoners, especially the women and children with special needs.
Mr. Al-Herbish stated that the work of EDRP is in accord with OFID’s overall objectives in ensuring the sustainability of dignified life for the Palestinian society and that “the program aims at achieving a long-term solution in rehabilitating societal groups by providing a solid framework which has a rippling affect within the entire community.”
In his own statement when informed about the award, HE Mr. Issa Qaraqe thanked OFID for the recognition and said that the money would be used to further assist various services within the framework that the EDRP provides to applicants through 15 local centres in the West Bank and in Gaza. The Program has to date provided rehabilitation services directed toward 18,000 prisoners. These services include a College Education facility for Ex-Detainees; Vocational Training Service; Loan Services; Health Insurance; and finally Psychological Counselling to ex-detainees as well as family members to further enable a positive environment for the family nucleus.
The OFID Annual Award for Development was instituted in 2006. It carries a prize of US$100,000. Among the winners are HUMANA People-to-People, a Zimbabwe-based NGO, Austria-based NGO, SOS Children’s Villages, the Grameen Bank of Dhaka, Bangladesh, Bartolina Sisa’s of Bolivia; Yéle Haiti Foundation; and last year’s award was accorded Dr. Al-Hajri, a philanthropic UAE ear surgeon.
Over the last 36 years, OFID has provided more than US$135 million in assistance for 451 operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. All operations have been implemented through partnerships with international and regional development organizations and more than 83 Palestinian NGOs in the West Bank and 145 NGOs operating in the Gaza Strip.

Impeach The United States Government

With love – Chelli - June 14 2012- That’s right.  Impeach em.  Cease em.  Adios.  Go away.  We could certainly do better than this.
You know that old story, the one of building upon foundations?  Well, it goes like if you build on a bad foundation you won’t last.  But if you build on a good foundation it will weather the test of time.
The United States was built on a foundation of mendacity in its highest form: the outright objection to respecting anything that wasn’t theirs and the trying to make theirs everything.  A foundation of murder, of horrific and as yet unceasing crimes against the Indigenous communities of this Land, and the capitalistic devastation against the Land – yes all these things form the foundation of the United States.
War is another part of this foundation.  War and violence both.  What is the definition of war?  What does it mean to never cease warring?  Ask that of the United States government and you’ll be met with a stone-walled silence and a back-handed slap.
Violence is unceasing in this culture.  War after war; a foundation of slavery, slave trade, and kidnapping.  Perhaps this stems from the thought that Capital is the bottom line – or even a God to this culture and age.  If you need more money and the money is the most important thing, then steal some more money, is basically what the United States government has been saying – and doing for many centuries now.

Today the United States government and its unending warring has bankrupted the world’s economy.  The United States government also continues to pollute abjectly despite being decried so often by citizens and governments of many countries, while simultaneously actively constantly promoting the continued and absolutely mindless use by its citizenry of far more than their fair or just share of the “resources” on the Earth.
This “Great Experiment” is truly a polluted strain.  Therefore we call for the Impeachment of the United States government as a failure and criminal who needs to be stopped. Read more.
