Palestinians Call President Abbas to Resign
Sunday 9 Sep. 2012 – Thousands of Palestinians demonstrators called President Abbas and his government to resign during protests against the frustrating situation of the rising living costs, the continued high levels of unemployment, poverty, hunger, high taxes, the consequences of the “Paris Protocol” which was signed in 1994, the economic policies of the PA and increases in taxes. In Ramallah, Hebron, Qalqilia, Nablus and Bethlehem demos continued day and night and reminded the Palestinians of the first days of Intifada against the israeli occupation.
“Down down to abbas”, “down down with Salam Fayyad”, “Goodbye PNA”, “We want to eat”, “Stop the Paris Protocol”, “Stop Coordinating with Israel”, were some of the slogans which the Palestinians chanted in the streets, lighting tires and blocking the streets with stones.
A group of young Palestinians calling themselves “Youth against high costs of living” insisted that they would continue protesting until the PNA listened and answered positively to all their demands.
The seventh day of mass protests was today Sunday, Sep. 9 2012. The Palestinians marched throughout West Bank cities calling on the PA resign or to set a minimum wage, to create jobs for the unemployed and to lower university fees. Truck drivers were seen blocking Al-Manara Square in the center of Ramallah, while the demonstrators were calling for President Abbas to resign.
President Abbas commented on the demos saying that “the Palestinians have the right to protest the raise of the prices”. He tried to throw the responsibility of the bad economic situation on his “prime minister” Dr. Salam Fayyad. Some months ago, Abbas clashed with Fayyad after he refused to renounce part of his powers as a president.
Last Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, Palestinian taxi drivers parked their cars during a protest against rising fuel prices and the high cost of living in the West Bank city of Nablus, Hebron and Ramallah.
Over 37% of the Palestinian budget of $ 2.4 billion (donations from US-EU-Western-Arab countries) goes for strengthen the so-called “Palestinian security services” which ONLY helps to protect the zionist colonists and the Israeli security as part of so-called “security coordination”. That means that 37% of the Palestinian budget is dedicated to stifling Palestinian political activity, jailing Palestinian resistance and handing them the Israeli intelligence, the shabak.
Another 10% of the budget goes to expenses to cover the luxurious life of President Abbas and his travels, and about U$ 240 million of the PNA budget goes to feed his secret bank accounts and those of his family members. Another $ 11 million dollars is distributed between the real estate holdings of President Abbas and his sons.
The Palestinian Authority is trying to exploit the protest demos and has asked the US for urgent assistance of U$ 200 million to “alleviate the crisis” which the massive looting on part of Abbas and other top PNA elements has provoked in first place.
