How much did Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas pay for his luxurious black hat, which he wore during his visit to Austria on last October 28, 2011???

This question came into my mind while looking at the President photos which I took during his visit last year, in the wake of the allegations published yesterday Sep. 10 2012 by the Hebrew edition of Yediot Aharonot.

The Israeli Edition reported criticism against President Abbas, quoting allegation from the al-Resalah news site which is affiliated with Hamas, which on their part had quoted that an article from Italy’s Il-Messaggero newspaper where it was claimed that “Abbas shoes cost 20.000 Euro”!

The Hebrew article alleges that President Abbas “prefers to buy moccasins by world renowned Italian shoemaker ‘Fabi’”. According to reports, the price of one pair of shoes can could cost as much as 20.000 Euros (about $25,500)

I must add that I looked at the website of Fabi (http://www.fabishoes.it) and was not able to find anything for such excessive prices among their Internet offering. Still, the shoes offered by Fabi, with prices up to EUR 375 the pair are unaffordable to most Europeans, not to speak of Palestinians.

Today, yesterday and since last week thousands of Palestinians across the West Bank have been protesting against “Paris Protocol”, the rising price of petrol and the deteriorating poverty situation in all the West Bank. In Hebron the protesters stoned the Municipality and smashed the windows of the firefighting trucks. The protesters burnt a police station in Al-Haras. In Nablus, over 50 Palestinians, among them several police, were injured during the clashes after the protesters burnt the police station in the city. Dozens of Palestinians threw shoes at a poster of Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, chanting “The government has betrayed us”.

Today the protests continued unabated and tires were burned in the streets even after the PA decided to temporarily reduce by 15 percent the prices of diesel, gas and kerosene, effectively will reverting them back to August prices.

Over 37% of the Palestinian budget of $ 2.4 billion (donations from US-EU-Western-Arab countries) goes for strengthen the so-called “Palestinian security services” which ONLY helps to protect the zionist colonists and the Israeli security as part of so-called “security coordination”. That means that 37% of the Palestinian budget is dedicated to stifling Palestinian political activity, jailing Palestinian resistance and handing them the Israeli intelligence, the shabak.

Another 10% of the budget goes to expenses to cover the luxurious life of President Abbas and his travels, and about U$ 240 million of the PNA budget goes to feed his secret bank accounts and those of his family members. Another $ 11 million dollars is distributed between the real estate holdings of President Abbas and his sons.

Ramallah – Kawther Salam – The Palestinian “Prime Minister” Dr. Salam Fayyad and the “President” Mahmoud Abbas have both targeted the Palestinian resistance and the opposition to their power in coordination with the Israeli and US intelligence, jailing and torturing dozens of politician figures, university students, doctors and engineers from Fatah, Hamas and other parties.

Recently the PA murdered a famous Palestinian military figure, Osama Aqel Mansour at the headquarters of the military intelligence.

Aqel was murdered because he knew which elements of the PA were involved in selling several buildings and lands of Palestinian property to the Israeli occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank. He was was thrown from a window of the military intelligence court just before giving testimony about the names of PA criminal elements.

On last Saturday, August 4 2012, the PA jailers murdered another prisoner, Raed Mahmoud Deeb, 49 years old, at the “Tulkarem center of reform and rehabilitation” (a jail). The criminal acts of the PA have immensely worsened the situation in the West Bank and created huge anger among all Palestinians

Wednesday August 8 2012 – Eyewitnesses reported an exchange of fire between PA police and unknown assailants at Dr. Salam Fayyad’s compound in Ramallah yesterday, but there were no reports of injuries according to the eyewitnesses. PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad was not in his compound during the shooting. He was touring in southern West Bank towns near Hebron

According to the Palestinian eyewitnesses, the exchange of gunfire in the Ramallah lasted around a minute. The Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds said that there had been no casualties. A few minutes after the incident began police were deployed in force, scouring the area for shell casings.

The Al-Quds newspaper reported about the exchange of fire yesterday night. The newspaper posted a picture of the Palestinian Special Forces around the Fayyad compound, but today morning the newspaper deleted the news about the shooting from its website.

According to Reuters, the Palestinian Authority officials declined to comment, citing the sensitivity of the incident, and there was no immediate indication of who was behind the attack.

The shooting occurred on a main thoroughfare clustered with modern government buildings under constant police guard.

Ramallah is the Palestinians’ administrative capital in the West Bank, under limited self-rule by the so-called Palestinian Authority, in territory Israel captured in the 1967 war, and for which Palestinians have long sought statehood.

The Palestinian Authority has launched a security crackdown in the West Bank in recent months, arresting scores of suspects in a security sweep that has sparked anger against PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah-led government.

The crackdown, led by elite presidential guards and the “counter-terrorism” unit, is seen as a determined bid by the Western-backed authority to regain control of key areas and smash armed elements that could challenge its power. Fayyad told Reuters in June 2012 that the operation would be broad-based and long lasting.

Drunken IDF Overturned in his Car after Wounding a Palestinian

The Israeli military spokesman claimed that a Palestinian officer working with the Palestinian National Authority (PA) stabbed an Israeli soldier, Ihab Khatib, 28, while he was sitting in a military jeep near the Taffouh junction, located south of the West Bank city of Nablus.

Our sources from the Taffouh junction stated that at around 1:50PM an Israeli military jeep deliberately ran over a Palestinian man who was walking in the street near the barrier. The eyewitness said that the jeep overturned on the pavement in the vicinity of the incident. The sources added that another Israeli settler who was in the same area during the incident was seen running out of his car with a knife in his hand.

The Palestinian victim was left on the side of street without medical treatment, while Israeli military staff took the Israeli soldier from the overturned jeep. The eyewitness strongly denied the fabrication of the IDF in which they claim that the Palestinian stabbed the soldier to death.

It is worth mentioning that the jeeps of the IDF are automatically shut from the inside and can only be opened by the person sitting inside the jeep, and that it is not possible for anyone from outside the car to open the doors.

The witnesses also condemned the Palestinian Authority’s acceptance of the Israeli fabrication about the incident. They said that the PA should know what really happened before uttering words of condemnation. It was on Mr. Salam Fayyad to condemn this incident in which an Israeli ran over a Palestinian just for fun, instead of condemning the Palestinian.

Fayyad stressed in a statement that the Palestinian Authority will “continue to make every effort to prevent such an event from recurring.” He added: “Such an incident,” the Palestinian prime minister said, “undermines national Palestinian objectives, and the Palestinian Authority’s commitments.” The Palestinian prime minister warned against being dragged into “violent activities” which have been proven to do “nothing but harm to the highest interests of our people,” and called on Palestinians to beware of the consequences of such actions.

Fayyad has never stood up to protect the interests of Palestinians, in either big or small ways, and his questionable attitude shown after this incident puts in doubt his loyalty to Palestine. The sources thought that the Israeli soldier who provoked the incident was drunk or under the influence of drugs.

The Palestinian victim was Mohammad Al-Khatib from the village of Yabed, and the IDF soldier was identified as a Druze from the Al-Maghar village, a sergeant major in the Kfir Brigade.

wonderful night, a wonderful concert!! Over 600 hundred attendants were happy to hear the Lebanese composer, musician, Oud player and singer Marcel Khalife on the night of 30 June 2009 in the courtyard (Arkadenhof) of the municipality in Vienna. Khalife sang the songs of Mahmoud Darwish, he sang for the passport, the gun and … His songs were a present to Palestine. The audience sang with Khalife and applauded his songs warmly.

Among the audience was Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny from the city of Vienna representing the Major Dr. Michael Häupl, the ambassador of the Arab League Dr. Michael Wehbe and his wife, Ishaya El Khoury the Lebanese ambassador, Dr. Omar Zniber, the ambassador of Morocco, the Palestinian ambassador and his wife, the UNRWA Commissioner-General Karen Koning AbuZayed, the Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, the Palestinian Minister of foreign affairs Dr. Riyad al-Malki, member of the city parliament Dr. Omar Al-Rawi, the organizers and the supporter of the concert, the Secretary General of Saar Fritz Edlinger, the Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Dr. Suleiman Al-Herbish and his wife, and many other Austrian politicians and prominent individuals, many members of the Palestinian and Arab colony, ambassadors of other countries, and some Jews from pro-Israel and pro-Palestine movements. Among them the representative of the Jewish student union at the University of Vienna. The pro-Israelis attended the concert for unknown reasons. Who knows, perhaps they were sent by the Israeli Embassy to see if they would be able to find any pretext to raise a stink.

Khalife’s concert was organized by the Society for Austro-Arab Relations (Saar)in coordination with OPEC, the municipality of Vienna, the Federal Ministry of Education and Culture of Austria, and several other Austrian organizations. OFID supported the event with 75.000,- Euros!! The contributions towards financing the concert were over hundred EUR 100.000, the tickets were sold for 25 to 50 EUR, the audience reached around 700, more or less. Acording to my information, EUR 65.000 were paid to Khalife and his Al Mayadeen ensemble. This was a very high contribution, which the Palestinians who live in disaster in Gaza have not received from the very same organizations which financed the concert, according to many among the attendants to the concert.

We are very happy to hear Marcel Khalife, we love to hear his songs, his words,his Oud music, and we love him too, but we are in shock at the double standards of the organizers who financed Khalife’s concert!! Where were the very same people during the last massacre in Gaza? Other people wondered and asked me: “Who invited the Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and his Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki, and why were they invited”? They said to me that they found it strange that the people who invited these PA officials were the same people who had described these PA officials as traitors in the media!

A person told me that they intended to invite Marcel Khalife for a concert inVienna, and that they had changed their opinion after Khalife demanded for EUR 10.000 as the price for a concert. This person told me “we found that EUR 10.000 was a too high price and we refused”. They described the high contributions paid for the concert as kind of corruption, saying that among the organizers were people who are fond off exhibitionism before the media, but that even the media forgot and ignored them after the concert had ended”.

Others commented positively on the concert, and described it as a positivedevelopment which helps to raise the voice of Palestine in Vienna. “We need the Austrians to hear our political voice in another way, in a way which they understand, we tried to raise our voice before the Austrian public in various political ways, but we were always ignored. And this concert helped us to achieve our goals”.

“I love music, all kinds of music. I am not political, I just attended the concert to hear music, I don’t care about Palestine, I don’t care about anything else” said an Austrian attendant”.

Some journalists left the concert before the end. According to one of them, anAustrian woman demanded them to stop photographing and filming. She claimed that Marcel Khalife had asked her to do that. The Austrian media ignored the event, even the journalists who were invited personally by the organizers to share the reception with Khalife at the Rathaus of Vienna did not report anything about the concert. During a search through Google, there were some short notes on ORF, and some blogs posted some information about the concert. All news about the concert was posted as commercial announcements by ticket agencies.

Where are the Palestinian and Arab Women????

A strong criticism against the organizer who nominated the people who were invited to a reception with Marcel Khalife, President Fischer and the President of the Parliament, Barbara Prammer at the Rathaus after the concert. The organizer of this reception ignored the Arab and Palestinian women, journalists and political activists in his list which was sent to the Rathaus and to the house of the President. But the same person did not forget his Jewish friends from Women in Black.

This organizer of this reception was an Austrian person from the SPÖ party, who nominated some of his personal friends and beneficiaries to both meetings. It is shame on him the clear ignorance towards Palestinian and Arab women. It is shame on him to present his personal friends as representatives of thePalestinian and Arab community. It is time to raise our protest before the Austrian society. In Austria, the rights of women are privileged, and the continued ignorance of the Arab and Palestinian women in Austria during the meeting in the Rathaus is an affront and against the Austrian laws and customs, where women are respected equal to men, not only before law. Why should Austrian politicians exclude the women from events just to make happy some chauvinists who exclude their own women from every walk of life with force? I will send a letter to the Major of Vienna and to the president of the Austrian Parliament concerning this farce of ignoring the real activists among Arab and Palestinian women, and there are some.

Politicians During the Concert

At the beginning of the concert, Salam Fayyad gave a speech thanking theorganizers and the Austrian government for the invitation. He also thanked the Lebanese singer Marcel Khalife for the concert, and briefed about Palestine. Fayyad, well known as a person who seldom smiles, was very friendly among the attendants, smiling, applauding, and singing together with Marcel Khalife. I left my camera to sit next to Fayyad on the floor. I told him that I criticized his government, that I want the best for my people, the Palestinians. Fayyad smiled and said God bless you. He wrote me his e-mail address. After the concert I gave Fayyad a goodbye kisses. My husband commented on that and said: “You are fighting against the policies of Fayyad and when you met him you forget everything and you talk with him like to a friend. What is this? I thought that you would never shake hands with him. I don’t understand you Palestinians!”

Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny from the city of Vienna gave a speech welcoming Prime Minister Fayyad, the musicians and all the attendants, and wished everybody a happy evening and stay. Dr. Mailath-Pokorny stayed with the audience until the end of the concert, listening to the music of Khalife and applauding him. There was a translation to German for some of the songs in Arabic.
